The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections. This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.

What do they do?

District councils are funded through council tax, government grants and business rates. They are responsible for services like bin collections, parks, public housing and local planning applications. Other public services in a district council area will be controlled by the county council which covers a wider area and is elected at a different time.
